Marcel Broodthaers Biography
Broodthaers had a passion for literature. He was a poet, wrote articles and art critics. However, he never became famous as a writer; he did as a conceptual artist. By the age of 40, he drenched his volume of poetry "Pense Bête" partly in plaster and presented this chunk in a gallery in Brussels. It became an unexpected and mayor success. Broodthaers had his own peculiar poetic style relying on language and ordinary objects (mussels, furniture, eggs). He belongs to the most important post-Dadaist artists of his time.
